View Full Version : Example of a more Impactful cards system

Foreword: I am French and I really should be more studious in my English class when I was in school. Be indulgent.


I have posted a note about UX of the cards system (http://forums.paladins.com/showthread.php?9389-Better-UX-for-Deck-building) a few days ago.
Now I think about a massive revamp of that system.

The fact is, I'm currently level 23 and I have never really switch between my decks in game, because I have 1 usefull/working deck for each hero I'm playing and I see no value to switch.
ATM, I consider myself as a noob but I have already played a lot of games, so why am I not building more decks to switch In Game ?.

Because lots of cards are not that impactful and I'm not a theory crafter.

So I think about a new system to build deck: cards assigned to a skill.
You can choose 5 cards:

1 for left click
1 for right click
1 for Q
1 for E
1 for F

The objectives here are:

More impactful choices without breaking the game
Easier to understand and make choices to a new comer (Only few choices per skill)
Better strategic loadout switch value


Let's see what it looks like with my favorite hero: Cassie

A shortbow that deals 375 damages every .75 seconds.

Add 5/10/15/20 damages for every successful shot until you miss (Maximum: 120).
A poison on your arrows applies deals 50/100/150/200 damages in 10s, can be stack 3 times.
Every successful shot gives you 2.5%/5%/7.5%/10% chance to instantly trigger a free shot.

The next shot within 5s after activating Disengage blast a target backward.

Shooting a target out of the air after knocking back them with Disengage deals 25%/50%/75%/100% more damage.
Dazes the enemy for 1.5s/3s/4.5s/6s.
Reduces the cooldown of Scout by 1s/2s/3s/4s

Blast shot
Fire an explosive projectile that knocks enemies back and deals 300 damage.

Reduces the cooldown of Dodge roll by 0.5s/1s/1.5s/2s if it hits a target.
Ignites the enemy and deals 100/200/300/400 damages in 4s.
Dazes the enemies for 1.5s/3s/4.5s/6s.

Dodge roll
Quickly roll in the direction you are moving. Removes all debuff on use.

Your next shot after rolling gains 15%/30%/45%/60% Lifesteal.
Your next shot after rolling have 15%/30%/45%/60% chance to be critical.
The damage of you next shot in increased by 15%/30%/45%/60%.

Send your bird into the sky for 8s, revealing the enemies.

Enemies are dazed for 0.5s/1s/1.5s/2s.
Increase your damage by 10%/20%/30%/40% during scout.
You and your allies gains 10%/20%/30%/40% speed during scout.

Damage cards were removed cause they would be picked over everything else.

I think this mode to pick cards its good, but, to use in other game mode, like : Sige-CardStandard-Matchmaking and Siege-NewCard-Matchmaking. that you can choose what you want to play
